I’ll be honest — I showed up wildly unprepared to speak at BTC Prague. But that’s kind of the whole point. If you wait until you’re ready, you’ll never do it. Action first, mastery follows. Here’s everything I’ve learned about creativity, resistance, and why your phone might be your biggest enemy.

The Fiat World Doesn’t Want You to Create

I’m a maker. I’ve been creating all my life. I see things in my mind that I believe should exist in the world, and I work to bring them into reality. But in this era of fiat, art and design has been pushed into the “not necessary” category. Projects are built short-term. Nobody cares how things look, how they resonate, how they inspire.

I believe this is intentional. The system runs on self-doubt. It wants you to feel like you’re not enough, like you can’t do anything outside of what you’re told. That demoralization is designed to keep your creative energy locked up inside you, unexpressed and wasted.

The Biggest Enemy Is Procrastination

We all have creative energy inside us. But expressing it clearly requires enormous discipline and self-belief. And the more meaningful the thing you want to create, the more resistance you will meet. That’s not bad luck — I think that’s the universe’s selection mechanism for ensuring only truly meaningful things get made.

The enemy is telling yourself “I’ll do it tomorrow.” Tomorrow is never. The only way forward is to sit down and start. I set up my environment like a defense system against distraction — a long playlist, water and food within reach, all my supplies ready. Think of it like Navy SEAL mission planning: prepare your environment so nothing pulls you out of deep work.

You Don’t Need Better Tools — You Need to Start

One of the heaviest procrastination crutches I see is the idea that you can’t begin until you have the perfect tools. That’s a trap. Some of the paint tubes I use cost $2. Some cost $200. Yes, the expensive paint is better — but I never let that stop me from painting. You start with what you have, and you earn the right to more advanced tools by doing the work with the basic ones first.

You can scale from clay and hand tools all the way up to a $50,000 CNC machine. There is always a way. Use the same creativity you want to put into your work to remove the barriers in front of it.

Ignore the Propaganda About Overnight Success

The fiat world loves to show you a 16-year-old guitarist rocketed to stardom and tell you it’s pure talent. What they don’t tell you is there’s $200 million in marketing behind that story. Show business is not truth business. Don’t let those stories discourage you from starting.

Think of it like hiking a mountain. You can’t stare at the summit the whole time — you watch your feet, you take small steps, you celebrate small gains. Every once in a while you look up and course correct. But you don’t let the top of the mountain paralyze you.

Put Down the Phone and Do Something Real

One of the greatest things you can do is master your use of your cell phone — or throw it in the river. That device is engineered in every way to steal your attention and keep you exactly where you are. Scrolling is not living. Action in the real world is living.

Ask for Help — Don’t Wait as Long as I Did

I waited far too long to build a team. I lost opportunities, missed emails, let things fall through the cracks — all because of this false belief that doing everything yourself is impressive. It isn’t. Nobody succeeds alone at any level. Find people whose vision aligns with yours, ask for help, and grow together.
