Silent Link – A Bitcoin-First Telecom Experience
Six years ago, we were a small MVNO reselling travel eSIMs. Then we decided to do something with Bitcoin — and Silent Link was born. On the BTC Prague stage, I shared how ditching fiat payment rails unlocked something we never expected: a truly KYC-free, anonymous mobile service built for Bitcoiners.
How It Started
We looked carefully at our products and asked ourselves what made sense to combine with Bitcoin. We landed on eSIM technology. The idea was simple: marry eSIMs with Bitcoin and build something that actually serves the needs of people who care about privacy. That experiment became Silent Link, and it has been working for Bitcoiners for five years now.
Why Bitcoin Made KYC Disappear
Here is the thing — travel eSIM is actually a KYC-free product by nature. There is no inherent reason to collect personal information to provide mobile data. But existing providers were forced into KYC processes because of fiat payment rails. Credit cards require identity. The moment we switched to Bitcoin, everything changed. We no longer needed a card on file. We do not even need an email address from our subscribers. Bitcoin payments gave us the freedom to build the anonymous mobile service that Bitcoiners actually want.
What Silent Link Actually Offers
It is global mobile data in any country, on a pay-as-you-go basis. You top up once and spend your balance anywhere in the world. There are no plans to choose, no speed throttling — always the highest possible speed on any network. Roaming is completely seamless. You never have to touch a setting when you cross a border.
Most importantly, your balance never expires. There are no recurring fees. Your account stays active even at zero balance. If you do not need the eSIM for a while, we will simply wait — it will be ready when you are.
A Shout-Out to BTCPay Server
None of this would have been possible without BTCPay Server. I want to give a huge shout-out to the entire team — Rockstar, Pavlex, Nicolas Dorier, Denis, Raymon, and everyone who has worked on it. This open-source project has powered our payments from day one, five years without a single issue. It lets you accept payments without relying on any third party, fully sovereign, disconnected from any geographical jurisdiction. It is, without question, one of the most important projects in Bitcoin.
Build for Bitcoiners
I want to encourage anyone thinking about going Bitcoin-first to take the leap. Serving Bitcoiners is genuinely more fulfilling. When your values are aligned with your customers, everything feels different. If we all built for each other, we would collectively be in a much better place. If you are ready to become a Bitcoin-first merchant, start with BTCPay Server — and find us on X and Nostr if you have any questions. We will answer.
Smart Bitcoiners plan ahead.
