Social Justice, Responsibility and Spirituality in a Bitcoin World: Challenges and Opportunities
As Bitcoin becomes the dominant medium of exchange, the maximisation of individual liberty in the monetary domain, one that comes with decentralisation and absence of trusted parties, may not be quite sufficient to respond to new challenges posed by equality to living in such a world – challenges to the very way duties we owe to one another are practised and guarded. By promising a world in which people will be empowered like never before, Bitcoin invites current owners and users to pioneer new ways to think and act about equality, responsibility, community, and spirituality. This talk teases these issues for the sake of Bitcoin's long-term social viability, acceptance, and, indeed, survival.
